The Vision of Belonging
Remembering
We all hold an ancient memory of belonging to each other and the Earth. Somewhere deep in our bones, we can hear the songs of our ancestors, calling us to return to the ceremonial fires. The bigger question at this time is, what do we do with this truth and this deep knowing that there is another way to live on the Earth? What do we do when so many of our beloved ecosystems are dying, and some of it is irreversible?
We stand at a pivotal moment in Earth's history, where so many of us across the globe are standing up against oppressive systems and refusing to participate in systems that have brought us to the brink of social and ecological collapse. We are resisting, organizing, making art, building and strengthening communities. The government is not the answer and the more we understand that the right politician will no save us, the faster we allow the old systems to die peacefully. We can hear and feel the new Earth coming and that is inevitable.
In this time of great turning, we must honor what we have lost and continue to lose. Every extinct species , every clearcut forest, every indigenous language that disappears, is a sacred loss that needs to be grieved. Grief work is not a luxury or a distraction, it is the essential medicine of our times. Our tears for this world create the fertile ground from which new life can grow. I am here to invite us to unmake ourselves, and to explore the idea that colonialism, racism, and all forms of oppression are a part of our present socialization. It does not have to be this way. We create culture every day, by our collective values and beliefs, rituals, stories and songs. Let us create our culture with beauty, from our hearts, because our minds cannot actually comprehend what is possible, based in the past. Our hearts are fully capable of creating the culture we need to truly honor each other and the Earth.
